Job Description

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research and health care of international standard relevant to Pakistan and the region. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital has well-equipped investigative services and provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities.
The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has nine community-based field sites across Pakistan (including five in Karachi) and focuses on research for the betterment of women and child health. It imparts high quality undergraduate and postgraduate training and carries out community oriented research of public health importance. The Department consists of a group of dedicated full-time and part-time faculty. Besides the outpatient clinics, the inpatient set-up consists of a paediatric ward with two units comprising of 84 beds, a dedicated 5-bedded area for paediatric neurology, a neonatal unit with facility of admitting 24 neonates along with ventilator support at a time, a eight-bedded dedicated paediatric ICU and 4 bedded pediatric cardiac ICU with round the clock critical care services looked after by fully trained paediatric medical and nursing staff.
The department is carrying out a Shigella surveillance study to establish incidence and consequences of Shigella, moderate to severe Diarrhoea in Karachi and Lahore. Shigella is a leading cause of Diarrhoea among children living in resource limited settings, responsible for an estimated 60,000 child deaths each year. This will be the multi-country study and 7 country sites from Africa, Asia, and Latin America will be involved. The study will be conducted at private and public sector hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) at Karachi and Lahore. Through this multi-country surveillance network sites will be ready to quickly implement rigorous and efficient vaccine trials, accelerating the time to vaccine availability to children in Low and Medium Income Communities (LMICs).

Responsibilities:
You will be responsible to:
provide research and technical support to the department faculty in developing grant proposals
initiate research activities, run research projects and collaborate with other departments under the guidance of supervisor
work in liaison with current researchers on identifying and developing future research and funding initiatives, developing and managing current and future research administration.

Requirements:
You should have:
a MPhil or Masters degree in Public Health or Epidemiology & Biostatistics along with MBBS degree, while those with FCPS or PhD in relevant discipline will be preferred
at least two years of relevant experience in any reputable organization is a preference for applicants with MPhil or Masters degree along with a MBBS degree while it is a requirement in case of having only either MPhil or Masters degree
excellent knowledge of research methodologies and data analysis techniques
proficiency in the use of computer applications, particularly MS Office and other relevant software packages for data entry and analysis
excellent interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills
ability to effectively work independently as well as in teams and establish harmonious working relations at the workplace
ability to multi-task, manage time effectively and prioritize assignments as per timelines
willingness to work at field sites and national and international travel as per project needs.
