Job Description

The Resource Development department at Aga Khan University is responsible for advancing the mission and priorities of the University and Hospitals by developing mutually beneficial relationships with its friends and supporters, and by generating philanthropic and other financial support. Through best practices in university advancement and fundraising, Resource Development works closely with university leadership, faculty, physicians and alumni, to engage diverse international constituencies. With the generous support of donors and partners from around the world, AKU advances teaching, research and healthcare and has a profound impact on the lives of its students, patients, and the wider community.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director, Resource Development has primary strategic responsibility for Aga Khan Universitys fundraising activities in Pakistan and will lead a team that will generate philanthropic and other financial income for the priorities of the University. The Director will be responsible for:
leading fundraising activities in Pakistan by developing and implementing strategies that will deliver ambitious fundraising results in support of University priorities
actively participating as a key senior member of Resource Development to advance strategies and deliver the wider University-wide objectives of Resource Development
leading, managing and motivating a fundraising team in Pakistan, setting and achieving agreed team objectives and personal targets. Ensure continuous professional development of staff to achieve individual and team results
leading diverse fundraising areas which may include principal and major gift fundraising, corporate fundraising, grateful patients, zakat, annual fund and appeals. Donors may include private individuals, alumni, former patients, corporations, foundations, and donors of zakat
managing and advancing a personal portfolio of leadership and major gift donors and prospective donors across Pakistan, and internationally, to achieve ambitious annual personal fundraising targets
advising, supporting, and partnering with University and hospital leadership, deans, academic faculty, senior administrators, colleagues in Resource Development, Alumni Affairs and Advancement Services, and others to advance fundraising
working collaboratively with volunteers to advance fundraising
ensuring that University and department policies and procedures related to fundraising and advancement services, are observed and implemented, always aspiring to best practice
partnering with colleagues across Advancement, to implement high quality, consistent and sustainable donor communications, donor cultivation activities, donor reporting, and donor stewardship
ensuring highest level of standards related to cultural sensitivity, ethical behavior, professionalism, discretion and confidentiality
travelling regularly to meet donors and, as necessary, to visit University campuses and locations and participating in strategic meetings internationally, in-person or virtually.

Requirements:
You should have:
a university education, preferably at the Masters level
at least 10 years of experience with 5 years of senior level experience in fundraising in universities and/or major non-profit institutions, especially in the context of Pakistan
a strong track record and experience of cultivating, soliciting, and closing major and principal gifts (5-7 figures) and delivering ambitious targets
an extensive knowledge of best practices in advancement, advancement services and alumni relations
experience working in complex institutions and international environments
senior level experience in working directly with and advising university leadership, academic faculty and influential volunteers
senior level staff management experience including mentoring and motivating staff, and the setting of and delivery of ambitious targets
strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner
willingness to travel nationally and internationally
highly professional, courteous and discrete manner.
