What are Words and Syllables?

A word is an articulate sound having some meaning, but a syllable is as much of a word as can be sounded at once. For example:

"Differ" is a word. It has two syllables, dif and fer. Likewise "Remember" is another word which has three syllables: re, mem and ber.
Note:
  1. These syllables may be separated from one another by means of a hyphen (-) like re-mem-ber
  2. A word may have one or more syllables. But in every syllable, there must be at least one vowel.
