Punjab Higher Education Department (HED), Government of the Punjab, has requested the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) to start the process for recruitment against the vacant posts of Librarian (Basic Scale - 17) in Higher Education Department. The PPSC has placed Librarian jobs in its coming-jobs list on its website.  So, it is expected that the PPSC may advertise these posts soon.

Minimum Qualification

As per Punjab Higher Education Department (College Librarians General Cadre) Service Rules, 2014, the minimum qualification required for the posts of Librarian is as under:

Master Degree 2^nd Division in Library Science or Library and Information Science from a recognized university.

Minimum Experience: Nil
Age Limit: Male 21 to 28+5 (33) years and Female 21 to 28+8 (36) years
Gender: Male, Female & Transgender

Domicile Eligibility: Only Punjab domiciled candidates can apply.

Syllabus for Written Examination / Test

PPSC did not upload syllabus for librarian post at its website. As learnt, the syllabus for written exam / test is as follow:

One paper MCQ type Written Test of 100 marks and 90 minutes duration comprising questions 20 Marks on English and 80 Marks on the field of Library Science.

Job Description of Librarian

Duties and responsibilities of Librarian are as under:

1. Librarian will maintain reference books/ catalogues and keep them up-to-date.
2. He/ She will maintain complete record of books, journals, magazines, thesis, Newspapers, Encyclopedias in prescribed manner.
3. He/ She will personally inspect the worn out books, their repair and replacement.

Promotion / Career Scope

Step 1: Librarian is eligible for promotion as Senior Librarian in Basic Scale 18 upon completion of 05 years experience on seniority cum fitness basis.

Step 2: Senior Librarian is eligible for promotion as Deputy Chief Librarian in Basic Scale 19 after completion of 12 years service in BS-17 & above on seniority cum fitness basis.

Step 3: Deputy Chief Librarian is further eligible for promotion as Chief Librarian in Basic Scale 20 after completion of 17 years service in BS-17 and above.

Salary of Librarian

Salary of Librarian is equal to Basic Pay Scale 17 along with allowances as admissible to other Punjab Government Employees.
