An Introduction to Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) in Pakistan
Education is evolving day by day and the experts keep on introducing new techniques for assessment of students pursuing professional degrees and careers. Some tests are designed to judge, assess and calculate aptitude of students seeking admission in field of their choice whereas, other tests are introduced to ascertain and assess the suitability of candidates for a certain field and career. Higher Education Commission (HEC), Government of Pakistan has taken on board the Education Testing Council (ETC) for conducting the Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) for the students and candidates seeking admissions in MS/ MPhil programs funded by Higher Education Commission (HEC) through a uniform, accessible and transparent procedure. HEC invites the interested candidates through newspaper advertisement and its website to get them registered online so that the Test of eligible applicants could be conducted afterward.
Eligibility
Followings students are eligible to apply:
- Those who have already applied online for HEC Scholarships via E-portal.
- Those who intend to apply for future advertised scholarship schemes and advertised by Universities.
- Those who are interested for securing admission in MS/ MPhil programmes in public and private universities of Pakistan.
How to Register Online
To apply for HAT, students are required to register with HEC online. Visit the http://eportal.hec.gov.pk and follow the instructions therein. Deposit Rs.500/- online as processing fee in favour of Director General Finance, HEC through any bank in Account Number 1742-79001334-01 HBL.
HAT Test Pattern
The HEC has categorized the Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) in the following test-categories and the division of fields for award of marks for each category is given as under:

Disciplines: Engineering & IT
Quantitative Reasoning: 40
Verbal Reasoning: 30
Analytical Reasoning: 30
Total: 100%
HAT 2
Disciplines: Management Sciences, Business Education
Quantitative Reasoning: 30
Verbal Reasoning: 30
Analytical Reasoning: 40
Total: 100%
HAT 3
Disciplines: Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences
Quantitative Reasoning: 30
Verbal Reasoning: 40
Analytical Reasoning: 30
Total: 100%
HAT 4
Disciplines: Physical Sciences
Quantitative Reasoning: 30
Verbal Reasoning: 40
Analytical Reasoning: 30

HAT Test Guidelines
- All the candidates should select the correct test; wrong selection may lead to cancellation of application.
- The minimum passing marks are 50%.
- The test result remains valid for two years.
- Only online registered candidates will be allowed to appear in the test.
- The applicants should also meet the eligibility criteria prescribed by the Universities for admission in MS/ MPhil programs. The candidates should be otherwise eligible to apply in the Universities.

HEC Scholarship Programmes HIGHER EDUCATION APTITUDE TEST (HAT) The Higher Education Commission is conducting test for HEC scholarship programmes on Sunday - April 14, 2019. The test is being organized for applicants who have already submitted online applications against advertised scholarship schemes. Applicants will receive roll number slip via courier or same can be downloaded from: hec.gov.pk/english/HECAnnouncements/Pages/HAT-Test-19.aspx
